An important geological phenomenon
The Sauces of Nirano represent an important geological phenomenon of international importance and a typical example of environmental and tourist enhancement. Sauces originate from deposits of mainly gaseous hydrocarbons (methane bubbles) and to a small extent liquid (petroleum) which, coming to the surface, dilute the clays and give rise to the typical cone formations. Inside the cones the emissions of mud mixed with hydrocarbons seem to boil, in reality they come out at room temperature, they are also salty and hence the name "Sauces". The field of Nirano is undoubtedly the most impressive phenomenon in Italy, in fact since ancient times historians and scholars have enhanced its interest with often very imaginative observations.
